Sunday Motorcycle Ride - Upstate New York - September 4, 2005

Break Time . . .
This is some country back road that we liked so we stopped. This was probably about half way through our motorcycle ride.
And of course - that's my bike. A 1995 Suzuki Intruder 1400cc.

Country Back Road
A view of the road we took a break on. This is outside of a YMCA summer youth camp. On the right side is a riding area for horseback riding.

Another country back road.
I took this shot while doing 45 MPH. The motorcycle in front is my friend Rich.

A Little Proof ;)
If you look closely, you will see it reads 45 MPH... Don't know why I took this one.

Here's that riding area. There were actually about four of these in various sizes. Campers were indeed out riding horses that day, but we didn't spot them untill we were once again riding, so no shots. |

The ridge line behind the riding area.
Funny how pictures never do justice to what we actually see. Very beautiful.

Me and Rich.
Behind us is a reservior that feeds New York City (one of many). There is an underground "aqueduct" that runs from here to the city (miles and miles of it).

The reservior is pretty big. And pretty too.
The next couple of shots will give you an idea of how big.

Reservior shot number two.
Very peaceful up here . . .

Reservior shot number three.
That is also a dam you see there. Did you know that New York City boasts some of the cleanest drinking water in the country? Not hard to see why.

Hi. I'm Michael. And this is my buddy Rich and this is my OTHER buddy Rich. |

This is another scenic overlook. Quite beautiful I think. Over to the far right, you will see an area that was in use as a Hang Glider landing area. |

Closer view of the landing area. If you look close, you can see people set up campers, tents and of course - hangliders. Click to enlarge. |

If you look directly above the car in this shot, you can see the take off ridge for the hang gliders. There's one that just took off, but it's rather small in this shot. Looks like a speck. Click to enlarge. |

Here's the hang glider making his way down. It was fun to watch and looked exciting. (Don't know if I would do it though . . .) |

Making their way toward the landing area. Lots of turns and banks on the way down. Click to enlarge. |

Another pit stop. Very quiet area. Looks like a trail for utility access, but very secluded. We actually came across this after making a wrong turn . . . DOH! |

This is from the same "wrong turn" stop. About 50 yards away from the trail in the previous picture. Looks like maybe some good fishing . . . |

I have lived in the state of New York for 17 years now. Overall, I complain alot about the high cost of living, taxes, housing, and the explosive growth over the past few years.
But when I go on a motorcycle ride like this, it makes me forget all of that - at least for the day.
We put over two hundred miles on our motorcycles during this ride and we were hungry for more. Only the time stopped us from going further. There is so much to see and so much gorgeous scenery.
When I go again, I will take more pictures. If we get some good color on the trees during the fall, you will see how breath-taking it is.
Thanks for taking a look. |
