The Right Way to Use Bonuses to Boost Sales
March 19, 2008
Adding value to your product (or affiliate product) is an excellent strategy. But if you put a dodgey bonus together, or do this in the wrong way, you can devalue your offer so much that it becomes worthless. Simple as that.
So here’s a general rule of thumb for you.
If you’ve really thought about it, dug about and tried to find something to add in as a good worthwhile bonus to try and tip customers over the edge, and you honestly can’t find anything that fits the bill, go with nothing.
No bonuses are better than one that turns your potential customers away.
As obvious as that sounds, it seems to be occurring more and more often recently, which is strange because of the sheer number of people that claim to know what they’re talking about that are teaching people what to do with online business nowadays.
Using the example above I want to demonstrate something to you that seems to have become a strange epidemic that pretty much makes me and everyone else I know click right
off the website and go somewhere else…
…and that’s when people take too much time and put in a little too much effort into adding value to their products.
Have a look at the below example and think about how many times have you seen this recently?
——————-
“Get your hard hitting, intensive training course,
entitled ‘Improve Your Golf Swing’, consisting of two CD’s
packed with audio and video, showing you all the tricks,
tips and tactics in use today by some of the most
successful fisherman in the world!.
Order today and get this proven course worth over $2500
for a measly $300.
In fact, I’m so confident that it’s going to help you I’m
going to knock the price down further. You can get all this
expertise in one place for an amazing $49.95.
Order your copy now!”
——————-
See where I’m coming from?
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with giving special offers to encourage people to take action, or just to show people they’re getting a real good deal, but from $2500 down to $49.95?
That’s going over the top, and unfortunately this affects you and your product’s credibility.
Think about it? How would you feel if you walked into a store and saw a top of the range 62″ plasma screen knocked down from $12,000 to $200?
Your first reaction would either be ‘Yeah right, this a joke’, or even more likely ‘What’s the catch?’ or ‘What’s wrong with it?’.
The whole purpose of your sales lettes is to build credibility and to increase customer confidence in your product. You do this by identifying and addressing the problems and questions people might have in your niche, while at the same time creating a need for your product.
Do you see how adding too much value, too soon, or going really over the top can be detrimental? Where you see it as giving the customers a bargain, they’re seeing it as another question in their minds.
Hey don’t get me wrong. Discounts are good, but in this type of circumstance it’s going to kill your sales. Don’t make the same mistake.
Now it’s also important to remember to add value using bonuses in a way which makes your bonuses seem like real products themselves, but never ever lose sight of the main purpose of your website.
Don’t throw people off in different directions and have them read ten sales letters for different products. It just doesn’t work like that. Again while you may think you’re adding value, all you’re doing is distracting and confusing your visitors.
When people say sell your bonuses like a real product, they mean a few hard hitting paragraphs about how this compliments the main product and you’re getting a heck of a
good deal, or you can’t get it anywhere else, or where it’s been proven etc.
Don’t go over the top, or you’ll begin losing your potential customers.
Now if you’re lost as to what the heck you could possibly give as a bonus to add value to your product, or don’t have anything to hand, don’t worry.
Your bonus doesn’t have to be tangible. It doesn’t have to be an ebook, it doesn’t have to be a piece of software. Open your mind a little and think about other things you could offer to people along with your product.
Are you respected in your field of expertise? How about a free one hour, no strings phone or video consultation, or even a follow-up consultation to see how they’ve done with the product you’ve just sold them?
This isn’t such a hard thing to implement if you have the knowledge. Just be careful not to try to give 100 people a free two hour consultation every week.
It doesn’t matter what you’re selling, you can use this method somewhere, whether it’s an hour free technical support, or a free 30 minute confidence builder to compliment your main product. It’s totally up to you.

Most Marketers Make This Mistake - Are You?
March 19, 2008
In my early years online I would have been lucky to read, listen or watch one tenth of all the ebooks, audios or DVDs I purchased. And believe me - I purchased a LOT of products!
You see, I was far to busy jumping from one product to the next to worry about actually implementing what I was learning. At times, I would try to “learn” about 3 or 4 different things in a day.
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out that I wasn’t doing very well. In fact, I was losing more than I could afford.
Sound familiar?
And that’s the problem.
This is the same scenario being played out by 90% of new marketers online…
…and it is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) reasons why most people fail to earn any real income online.
YES, it’s important to purchase products so that you can educate yourself on the latest methods to build and grow your online business…
…but unless you actually take action to put in place what you learn and take real action, then you’re fooling yourself. You’re simply wasting your time, energy and money.
Only when you understand and totally accept that you *MUST* take action to implement what you learn will you move forward and begin building a solid future for yourself. I know this from personal experience.
But before you do anything, you first need to decide on what business model you will use to build your business.
Once you’ve done this, you then need to be become a master of that model by studying all the techniques and strategies relating to this area.
For example, if you selected internet marketing as your niche you have the choice of many models to build your online business…
- Affiliate Marketing
- Blogs
- Butterfuly Marketing Sites
- Paid Memebership Sites
- Authority Sites
- Adsense Sites
- eBay
etc.
Each of these models have many list building, traffic generating and other techniques you need to learn.
But a word of warning…
Don’t fall into the trap of trying to use multiple models when your first start out.
YES, using multiple models is a great way to explode your income, but this can only be done one step at a time. Trust me, I’ve been there, done that. You simply won’t have enough time to do this all at once.
First apply and master the various techniques for your chosen model - and then only when you’re showing good returns should you move on to another model.
Now building your business and earning an online income is not going to be easy. It will be frustrating, time consuming and at times it will mentally drain you.
But if you focus on one thing at at time, stay strong during times of adversity and follow your system, you WILL succeed!
That reminds me…
You do have a proven system you’re following don’t you?

Just this week, PayDotCom launched two new additions that can really make you money. The new blog widget and the new advertising system. What are these?
The Widget - You’ve seen widgets on blogs, I’m sure. Think Blogrush. Now, PDC has one you can put on your blog too.
- It’s free for you to put on as many blogs as you want
- You make commissions when your visitors click on links in your widget and buy products
- If you refer new PDC members, they go into your referal network
- If you have products in the PDC marketplace that are in the top 25 of your categories, it will rotate in this system, creating a new traffic stream for you
The profit potential is awesome on this. Grab a widget now…
The Advertising System
PayDotCom gets over 750,000 page impressions per month.
Now you can take advantage of some of this traffic for yourself.
PayDotCom now has advertising links on the Log In page and in the Marketplace Search pages - much the same as Clickbank does.

Succeeding With Your On Line Business
March 10, 2008
The following was “borrowed” from Eric Louviere from Job Crusher. Eric has seen his own on line success come much faster than he had anticipated. What he writes below is something everyone who is serious about their own success should read, print, hang on their wall and study. So enjoy…
===========================
1. You need some kind of leverage. I believe in business, leverage is important. I’m not talking about having the upper hand, I’m talking about having some kind of leverage. Here are some examples of what I am talking about:
— Ability to deliver tons of targeted traffic (a big list, a branded name, PPC or advertising expertise, etc)
— Copywriting skills and talent. One of the most desired skills marketers need and look for in partnering, etc.
— Contacts. If you know the “big players” in your niche, you have leverage. You may think this is unfortunate, but it’s true.
— A glowing personality. Yes, sounds funny, but is true. Those who stand out, are ambitious, persistent and show burning desire are attractive to work with because they are likable.
Leverage is important in this IM niche, that’s for sure.
2. You must change this hobby into a burning passionate business of yours. If it’s spare time, it’s not going to work. I worked after work, before work and on weekends (and at work too)…
3. You must become a great student of this business. Learn as much as you can. Be a great student and watch other top marketers and look for what they do and how they do it. Dont look at it as predominantly a customer — look at what they sell and see what you can learn from it. Read between the lines, what are they doing??
4. Provide much more value than what the price tag is asking for. If you want to sell something for $47 to the public, make that offer worth $200, or even $2,000 — if you want a winner!
5. Watch who you associate with. Dont associate with poor people. Broke people are fine. lol Broke is a temporary economic condition. Poor can be a state of mind, and you are not going to change that.
Now, that sounds harsh, but here’s a bit more… Negative people or people who bring you down, are not the people you want to spend a great deal of time with. They will smash your confidence, action taking ability and have you second guessing everything you ever think about doing.
In this business, action wins… Be around people who build you up, not rip you down.
6. Build and work on growing your self confidence. The more confident you are, the more action you will take. The more action you take, the more results you’ll get (good or bad). The more results you get, the more you’ll be able to determine what works and what does not work.
For someone with a low self confidence, they might quit if they fail once. Someone with a high self confidence will move on past failure without blinking their eyes
7. Know your market very-very well. In this market, pay attention to just about everything someone says. If someone says something that bothers them, pay attention to what that is. If someone likes something, pay attention to what that is and so on.
By doing this, you’ll quickly find unlimited golden opportunities to sell stuff.
8. Study copywriting. Too many marketers, especially newbies, ignore copywriting. And, that’s too bad. Because, that’s where it is.
You see, anyone can drive traffic to a web page… but not everyone can produce compelling copy. Plus: copywriting has so many insights on so many levels it’s not even possible for me to list them here.
Basically, by studying copywriting, you’ll devleop a nose for what sells, what could sell, and what does not sell — or what would probably not sell well.
You get a nose for that stuff. Do yourself a huge favor and commit to learning copywriting for years to come.
9. Cover your weaknesses and focus on your strengths. I suck at technical stuff, organizing stuff and one or two other things. lol
I get that stuff covered for me, so I can focus on what I do best. That makes things much more enjoyable, plus, helps get things done faster.
After all, we tend to refrain or ignore doing the things we suck at and gravitate towards the things we are good at.
10. Build Relationships!
Nothing will get you to a huge income faster than “relationships”. Get outside yourself, and get to know other marketers. Go to seminars, workshops, events, webinars, coaching sessions, masterminds, chats, etc.
Get on Instant Messaging platforms and strike up conversations. Call people up on the phone if you can and chat. Find other marketers in your region, and meet up.
Bonus number 11. Work on your business at least 5 to 6 days per week… at least an hour or more each day. You cannot build momentum if you take long breaks away from your business. Do something every day if you can. And, that means productive time stuff — research, studying, writing, creating, innovating, etc. (not distracting things)
